FREE awareness session and a new AED for Ilfracombe

Did you know that use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can increase the cardiac arrest survival rate by a staggering 70%?

Here in Ilfracombe there are AED’s at The Market Arches on the High Street, RNLI Boathouse, Tesco and the Hele Bay garage PLUS the latest addition to this life saving list which is situated on the Pier attached to the Harbourmasters building.

This latest AED has been very kindly funded and organised by Steven Kelleher, his family and the team at The Dolphin restaurant. In Steve’s own words;

We decided to put the defib up in memory of my father as he was born, lived and died on the harbour, working and living above the Dolphin Restaurant for the latter years of his life after retiring from the running of the Britannia Hotel. We thought he would like something that would benefit the community and visitors to Ilfracombe. We realised there was a need for one (AED) down the pier as the nearest defib is beside the life boat and taking into considering the amount of footfall and traffic on the pier.

Steve and his family would also like to thank the Ilfracombe Harbour Master, Dave Shaddick First Aid and Ben Langham for fitting the defib.

One Ilfracombe are also pleased to announce that in association with the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and Ilfracombe Town Council an AED Awareness Session on Tuesday 25th Spetember.
