A Business Survey undertaken by One Ilfracombe has produced some interesting results. Three main issues were raised by businesses in the town: around parking and traffic, cleaner streets and promotion and marketing.
Parking & Traffic – The biggest issue for most was where car parks are located, longer free parking, space to unload and load and traffic wardens. Also, the flow of traffic within the High Street was raised.
Cleaner streets – Keeping the streets clean, and helping to improve the appearance of shop fronts.
Promotion and Marketing – Some felt the whole town needed better promotion, with better signage joining the High Street to the Seafront and Harbour.
Julia Knight, Community Engagement Co-Ordinator, said: “The overriding message came through that many businesses are struggling to pay bills and feel there are things that can be done to enhance the area and encourage people to shop here.
We have already highlighted the parking issue in our People’s Voice submission to Full Council, which will take place in September. We will continue to consult with businesses in order to identify areas in which support can be offered. ”
The Business Survey was submitted in support of One Ilfracombe’s bid for a Coastal Community grant; this was successful, resulting in £10,000 being awarded to be spent on supporting our town’s regeneration.
