Age Concern Barnstaple & District is concerned for the ‘quality of life and the well-being’ of older people in the local community. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for older people and their carers. Working locally with and for older people providing services on a social and practical level to enable them to live in their own homes for as long as it is safe for them to do so.

Age Concern provides day opportunities in order to support older people and their carers to maintain as independent and as full a life as possible.

  • Mondays – 2.00pm to 4.00pm – The Rainbow Club
    Meeting venue – The Community Room, 1 Litchdon Street Barnstaple
  • The 3rd Wednesday of every month – 2.00pm – 4.00pm – The Library Club
    Meeting venue – Henry Williamson Room, of the Barnstaple library. Guest speaker raffle and refreshments.
  • Tuesdays & Fridays – 10.00am – 12 noon – Morning ‘Pop In’
    Information and signposting with coffee and scones. Occasional lunches arranged.

Care for: Dementia, Detention under Mental Health, Mental Health, Old Age, Physical Difficulties, Sensory Impairment, Alzheimers, Huntington Disease,
Multiple Sclerosis.

                                       

British Red Cross

The British Red Cross run a support at home service, offering short-term practical and emotional support at home and loan of mobility aids. Support is tailored to the needs of the individual however the Red Cross are unable to undertake personal care or domestic chores.
Anyone aged over 18 who is registered with a North Devon GP can access the service. Just call them to register.
The friendly service can provide companionship and help with everyday tasks such as shopping, collecting prescriptions and accessing local services.

Cleaning, vacuuming, washing, ironing, changing the bed, preparing meals, gardening, shopping, transport, providing company, taking a walk, going for a swim, trip to the beach, walking your dog and many more.
This is a ‘paid for’ service. Free personal home visits are available to talk about anything that you need and you are under no obligation to use the service. Many people are entitled to assistance with the cost of their care, Carly Cares can advise you on the best options open to you.
