Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB)

The North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a stunning coastal area which is nationally protected for the beauty of its landscape. It is at the heart of North Devon’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve  and covers 171 km sq of the coastal landscape from Marsland Mouth on the Cornish border to Combe Martin on the boundary of Exmoor National Park.

 

 

Ilfracombe Walking Group

This group is for more able walkers. Meetings are on Tuesday mornings, with walks all around the local area and further afield such as Morthoe, Watersmeet, Braunton Burrows and Hartland. …

This group is for more able walkers.
Meetings are on Tuesday mornings, with walks all around the local area and further afield such as Morthoe, Watersmeet, Braunton Burrows and Hartland. The group meet in Lidl’s car park or at certain bus stop points in the town.
FREE to join. Members contribute towards petrol/ pay bus fare.
Every four months the group has a lunch to discuss and decide the next four months of walks so that everyone has an input into where they would like to go.

The University of the Third Age is a learning cooperative for people who draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their own members to organise and provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership.
U3As offer the chance to study different subjects such as art, crafts, local history, garden visits, opera, geology, walking and many others. Although called a University no academic qualifications are required to join. There is no formal teaching or learning and no examinations. There is no age limit but members tend to be retired, semi retired or approaching retirement.

Coffee mornings at 10.30am on the 1st Thursday of the month, at the Ilfracombe Golf Club.
Price: £2.50 includes entry tea/coffee with unlimited top-ups.

Monthly lunches on the second Thursday each month which includes a speaker with talks lasting around half an hour.
Price: £12.00 per person for a 2 course meal with tea/coffee.

Open to everyone and FREE, walking as part of a group is a good way to make friends and discover new walks. It can:

  • Help your heart and lungs work better
  • Lower your blood pressure
  • Keep your weight down
  • Lighten your mood
  • Keep your joints, muscles and bones strong
  • Increase ‘good’ cholesterol

A circular walk in Rock Park for 20-30 minutes, stop for coffee and a chat afterwards.
Term time only.
Meet at Barnstaple Museum, Tuesdays at 10.15am for 10.30am start.

Grade 1 walk:  for those who do little of no physical activitity – gentle 30 minute walk on level ground for 1 mile.  Meet every Friday at the Landmark Theatre at 10.15am for a 10.30am start.
