This is a FREE service offering support for carers aged 50+ who are facing the end of their caring role.
When the person you have cared for moves to residential care or passes away you may feel many emotions:

  • Relief
  • Anger
  • Guilt
  • Grief
  • Anxiety
  • Loneliness / Sadness
  • Peace

It can help to talk to someone who has time to listen and understands. This service provides friendly mentors who can help people who care for someone, who is now moving to residential care or has a life limiting illness. Carers can access the service at any stage from before to after change occurs.
The carer can self refer or they can give permission for someone else to do so.
The service can also provide information, support and signposting regarding:

  • Finances
  • Access to learning
  • Access to social activities
  • Learning to live alone

Age Concern Barnstaple & District

Age Concern Barnstaple & District is concerned for the ‘quality of life and the well-being’ of older people in the local community. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for older people and their carers. Working locally with and for older people providing services on a social and practical level to enable them to live in their own homes for as long as it is safe for them to do so.

Belle’s Place, formerly known as The Real McCaf, is a safe and friendly environment for young people to meet and socialise.
Run by qualified and experienced youth workers who offer advice, support, guidance and information on a wide range of areas affecting young people. With access to other agencies and the wider community.
All young people from the school year 7 are warmly welcomed to come and check us out.
We offer a range of activities and facilities along with our chilled café:

  • Art and crafts
  • Dance
  • Internet access
  • Cooking
  • Life skills
  • Games/ sports
  • Pool table
  • Make-up/hair

Bladder and Bowel Foundation

The Bladder and Bowel Foundation is the UK wide charity for people with bladder and bowel control problems. It provides information and support services, including a confidential helpline, for anyone affected by these conditions as well as their families, carers and healthcare professionals.

 

 

British Red Cross

The British Red Cross run a support at home service, offering short-term practical and emotional support at home and loan of mobility aids. Support is tailored to the needs of the individual however the Red Cross are unable to undertake personal care or domestic chores.
Anyone aged over 18 who is registered with a North Devon GP can access the service. Just call them to register.
The friendly service can provide companionship and help with everyday tasks such as shopping, collecting prescriptions and accessing local services.
